Physical therapy is a medical, hands-on approach to relieving pain and restoring function. Physical therapists are medical experts in musculoskeletal and neurological conditions.

Our physical therapists carefully evaluate your movement patterns as a way to identify mobility limitations, strength imbalances, or movement faults. If you are coming to us because of an injury or pain, we will identify the cause and work hard to eliminate it.
We strongly believe that you do NOT have to be in pain to benefit from physical therapy. If you are experiencing a plateau in your training progress, want to improve your movement efficiency, and prevent injuries down the road, this is for you!
Every client’s presentation is unique. Our performance physical therapists will use a variety of hands-on techniques, exercises, and equipment to relieve pain and restore movement as quickly as possible.
The overall goal is to restore unrestricted, pain-free mobility and correct movement imbalances. By addressing these two pillars, we will be able to prevent the injury or pain from reoccurring and finally achieve your performance goals.

Upon your initial evaluation, your physical therapist will take a detailed medical history and conduct a thorough examination, checking your flexibility, strength, balance, posture and movement. He or she will discuss in detail all of the findings of your evaluation and include you in the development of your individualized plan of care. You will then have a better understanding of “How We Can Help You Get Your Body Working Better!”

Physical therapy is not intended to hurt, but to assist with relieving pain and increasing mobility. However as we work towards getting you to a place where you feel better, you may experience different levels of discomfort and pain. It is common to experience temporary soreness and bruising after your session in the areas that are stiff, weakened or recovering.

If you are unsure and are concerned in how your body is responding to treatment, please call or discuss it with your physical therapist during your visit.

While in NY state, direct access allows patients to be evaluated and treated by a physical therapist, most insurances require a patient to obtain a prescription for physical therapy when starting a treatment program. This is used to demonstrate medical necessity and required by most insurances in order to process claims. If you intend to use your insurance to pay for PT, we do require that you obtain one when coming for your initial visit.

The need for a referral depends on what type of insurance you have. Most insurance plans do not require one, however some insurances do. For example, if you have HIP, you will need a referral from your primary care physician. We ask that you check to see what your health insurance plan requires prior to your initial visit. If you are unsure, please contact our front office and we’ll do our best to determine whether or not you require a referral.

Insurance coverage depends on your provider and list of benefits. Some insurance plans require a co-payment at the time of visit, while others require patients to pay a percentage or deductible. Most work-related and auto-related injuries are fully covered. We request that you check with your insurance company to determine your coverage prior to your initial visit. You don’t have to stop receiving physical therapy, just because your insurance benefits have reached their maximum usage.
Brooklyn Body Works Physical Therapy, recognizes the consistent decline in the amount of physical therapy benefits given out by insurance companies. Often, our patients feel “cut off” from physical therapy visits, although the need for continued physical therapy is still vital and medically necessary. That is why Brooklyn Body Works Physical Therapy, developed the Aftercare Program, which is designed specifically for our clients whose insurance no longer covers their physical therapy sessions.
Here are a few great reasons to consider our Aftercare Program:
1. Maintain, strength, conditioning and function without a lapse in treatment
2. Continue benefits of manual, hands-on therapy
3. Customize and progress your home exercise programs
4. Continue to have direct access to our skilled, experienced clinicians
5. Receive discounted rates that meet your economical restrictions

If you’ve come this far and shown massive improvement, why stop your physical therapy individualized plan of care now?

Don’t let time lapse between your physical therapy visits because of your health insurance. Call and ask about our Aftercare Program today. We offer affordable rates and a multitude of package options.

Since this is a physical therapy session which will require a physical examination and therapeutic exercise (varies by patient), we ask all our patients to come prepared. Please come dressed in loose fitted clothing that will allow for easy mobility, comfort, and access to the area of complaint. In addition we recommend sneakers with soles that grip to prevent slips or falls.

At Brooklyn Body Works Physical Therapy, we take the safety of our patients health and well-being serious. Because of the intimate nature of our services, it has always been our priority to have high standards of sanitization and cleanliness including:
1. Sterilizing all surfaces in-between use that require patient and staff contact (therapy tables, exercise equipment, bathroom facilities)
2. Utilizing Medical Exam Paper over head rest areas during sessions as a barrier to prevent direct contact with pillows
3. Limiting usage of direct contact towels to one patient followed by hot wash and sanitization.
4. Regular maintenance to reduce build up of dirt and dust by vacuuming daily, wiping down mirrors, sanitizing non-carpeted areas, and deep cleaning every few months by professional cleaners.

At this time, Brooklyn Body Works Physical Therapy does not offer Home Care as a service. We do however offer comprehensive in-clinic care and provide patients with recommendations on transportation services to make getting to our clinic easier.

We currently have on-site parking for patients available at our 202 Union Avenue location located on the side of the building. Due to the location of our 101 Tenth Street clinic, we are unable to offer patient parking.

Medical records are commonly requested by our staff and provided by your doctor or hospital prior to your initial visit. We ask that all patients check if they have been received before coming in. If they have not been sent to our office and your appointment is quickly approaching, we ask that you bring in all hard copies in your possession such as X-Rays, MRI’s, CT Scans, Sonograms, and anything else that will help us in providing optimal care.

In addition to the above, we ask patients to bring in a list of their current medications.

We have an amazing staff at Brooklyn Body Works Physical Therapy, with schedules that fill up quickly. We encourage all patients to become familiar and work with more than one physical therapist at our clinic. Receiving care from more than one physical therapist facilitates and ensures the consistency of your therapeutic experience while adding a teamwork approach that contributes individualistic skills.

Requesting to work with a specific physical therapist is available, but circumstances that must be taken into account are: scheduling due to high demand and skills that may be necessary for your care which may not be offered by the therapist of interest example “Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy”.

Our focus at Brooklyn Body Works Physical Therapy is treatment and management of sports and orthopedic injuries and post-surgical rehabilitation. The objective is to help our patients with performance enhancement, sport specific training, and re-establish functionality.

Our 202 Union Avenue location in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, is a state-of-the-art physical therapy and sports specific training facility with over 2700 sq. ft of space. We have equipment such as Free Motion©cable columns, Cybex© Leg Press, Life Fitness© elliptical trainer and recumbent bike, Star Trac© treadmill, Shuttle balance trainer©, Balanced Body© Pilates reformer, and free weights.

Generally we recommend clearing your schedule for one to two hours. Your initial and subsequent evaluations which include evaluating your progress and treatment plan, will take approximately 1.5 hours. Followups and treatment sessions last approximately 1 hour.

Commonly, individualized plan of care will include treatment schedules of 1-2 visits per week. Since each patients diagnosis, case, and physical condition is different, the number of required sessions will vary. Treatment plans can be anywhere from from 6-12 weeks long with re-evaluations and regular follow-up visits with your doctor.

Each patients case and diagnosis is unique and requires the development of an individualized plan of care. Your physical therapist will give you an estimate of the number of sessions needed to reach a level of “feeling better”, during your initial evaluation.

Over time the number of visits may increase or decrease from the initial estimate, based on the progress made.
