Hot Spots and Foot Blisters

– Hot Spots and Foot Blisters –

A “hot spot” is an area of localized pain, redness and swelling on your foot caused by increased pressure, friction and moisture. A hot spot is the precursor to a blister and is an early warning sign to inspect your feet and fit of your socks and shoes.

A blister, which is a small pocket of fluid within the upper layers of the skin, is the body’s reaction to increased, prolonged pressure, friction and moisture on the hot spot. A blister can be quite painful and can alter the way you run, jump and land, decreasing performance and often hampering performance. A blister can also get infected and severely limit your activity or take you totally out of the game.
