Alter G Treadmill

What is it?

The Alter G Anti-Gravity Treadmill™ utilizes its patented Differential Air Pressure (DAP) technology to offer a unique and distinctive approach to training and rehabilitative therapy. This revolutionary equipment houses a special air chamber to decrease the impact of gravitational forces and body weight users experience while they walk, run, and exercise in an unrestricted environment. Its advanced calibration system can uniformly reduce gravitational load to unweight users from as little as 20% of Body Weight (BW) to as much as 100%, making them feel weightless. The positive air pressure chamber and fall-safe environment makes it an effective tool for patients across a broad spectrum of diagnoses and therapeutic stages.

The Alter G Anti-Gravity Treadmill™ truly sets itself apart from other rehabilitative equipment by:
• offering both comfort and pain free movement without disturbing natural gait mechanics.
• allowing users to adjust and control the amount/progression of positive pressure and weight-bearing activity as tolerated.
• providing users insights to their movement patterns through real-time gait analytics and live video feedback.
• giving patients who normally can not participate in strenuous exercises, an option to stay physically active.
• reducing joint impact forces preserving joint health over time.
• decreasing overuse injuries in runners

In addition to the advantages the user may experience while using the Alter-G, patients and clinicians report:
• improvement in knee pain, joint function, and thigh muscle.
• increased mobility and walking capacity including speed and greater incline while in the Anti-Gravity chamber.
• increased cardiovascular endurance and positive impact on body composition.
• lower heart rate, systolic blood pressure, and oxygen consumption.
• significant positive impact on postural alignment and balance.
• improvement in reflexes and muscle stiffness.
• increase in muscle mass and leg strength.
• safety and effectiveness for gait training.
• reduced lower extremity pain.
• increased exercise compliance.

Quality care that’s accessible

Brooklyn Body Works Physical Therapy began as an idea to bring the highest quality physical therapy to all people in our community. We wanted to offer the best that NYC has in health care while not marginalizing people based on socioeconomic boundaries (race, income, language, religion, etc). We offer a “concierge style service” and continue to accept many commercial insurances, medicare and even medicaid policies.

common faq's

Since this is a physical therapy session which will require a physical examination and therapeutic exercise (varies by patient), we ask all our patients to come prepared. Please come dressed in loose fitted clothing that will allow for easy mobility, comfort, and access to the area of complaint. In addition we recommend sneakers with soles that grip to prevent slips or falls.

The need for a referral depends on what type of insurance you have. Most insurance plans do not require one, however some insurances do. For example, if you have HIP, you will need a referral from your primary care physician. We ask that you check to see what your health insurance plan requires prior to your initial visit. If you are unsure, please contact our front office and we’ll do our best to determine whether or not you require a referral.

Each patients case and diagnosis is unique and requires the development of an individualized plan of care. Your physical therapist will give you an estimate of the number of sessions needed to reach a level of “feeling better”, during your initial evaluation.

Over time the number of visits may increase or decrease from the initial estimate, based on the progress made.
